Silvia is interested in investigating the impact of economic change in in underdeveloped countries. How does integration into the market economy transform the living conditions, consumption patterns, ethnic identities, and health status of marginalized populations in the global south? Her dissertation research examines experiences of day-workers navigating the construction labor market. How is their paid and unpaid labor divided within the household and at the workplace? Does the division of labor in the construction industry contribute to building solidarity among workers, or does it reinforce deep-seated ethnic inequalities?
