Finn's dissertation examines the effect Christian women's participation in sport has had on evangelical Christianity, specifically in regards to gender and gender roles. His dissertation also addresses how women's representation in the Christian sports magazine, The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Magazine, has changed over time. He is specifically focusing on female Christian triathletes and how their participation within the male dominated sport of triathlon affects gender roles in the family and larger evangelical community. He is focusing on the two largest evangelical Christian triathlon groups, FCA Endurance and Tri4Him in order to better understand how women negotiate gender as athletes and as Christians.
